There are a huge number of ways to go about getting free ebooks to read, here are the few that I use to help you get started.
Public Domain:
1. Standard eBooks - a website offering free classic literature that have been formatted to look beautiful on any ereader, most of these books can also be found on Project Gutenberg, however they are formatted much better on Standard eBooks than almost anywhere else
2. Planet eBooks - a website again offering free classic literature. They do an okay job at formatting, however many books are missing a clickable "table of contents" or other basic ereading features
3. Project Gutenberg - this is a website that started around the same time ereading began to enter the market. They have made it their mission to preserve every piece of literature possible in the public domain for anybody to read completely free. While this is a great resource the books are often formatted very poorly and are made very quickly without much love. I would always check the first two websites for the book you want and only read from this website if the book can not be found elsewhere.
4. Libby - the Libby app by overdrive is an amazing resource for anyone with a library card and a cellphone. Just download the app, login with your library, and start reading tons of books totally free from your library. I consider it the "Netflix of Books"
Popular:
1. Z-library - a website that hosts thousands of books to download and enjoy totally free. The books come in any number of formats so be sure to use the Calibre PC app to convert and manage your library
2. LibGen - Library Genesis started out with the idea of preserving all human writing, nonfiction and fiction, forever on the internet for anyone to access. As of today some authors even post their own works to LibGen and you should be able to find almost any book you are look for here.
