The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild isn't just a new movie, it is a classic book that should be on almost anyone's TBR pile or shelf! The Call of the Wild is written by Jack London in 1903 as a serial novel, novels that were published in parts like a TV show, which was a very popular way to read books in 1903.

The book itself centers around the character Buck who in the beginning is a cushioned pet, then a hardened sled dog, and finally a wild animal. I feel the book is an allegory for "civilized" life.

In The Call of the Wild there is an incredible amount of symbolism, take for example Buck's harness, it symbolizes being bound to the law and to his servitude, and when it is gone t symbolizes his complete freedom. I can't go into all of the details all of the symbolism present in The Call of the Wild, simply because there is so much of it.

Anybody should pick this book up, it is short (less than 100 pages) and can be finished in just a few hours. It can be read 100 times and you will still find something new to think about in all the deep symbolism. One could spend days really picking apart and understanding this book. Don't be fooled by the "classic" status, this book is impossible to put down!
